Bob Felasco

Bob Felasco is a person you want as a friend, coach, teammate or official.  He is a gentleman, a teacher, a leader, a tireless worker and a loyal friend.  Bob is held in high esteem for all that he has accomplished for himself, for the coaching / officiating professions and most admirably for his work with the parochial high school youth of the Syracuse community.

He was, a North High School class of ’45, two-sport athlete, baseball & basketball (All – City Basketball), a Syracuse University basketball athlete, a high school baseball and basketball coach, a high school and collegiate basketball official, and he competed on several local baseball and softball teams.

Bob made a positive impact on all the activities in he participated in, but he reached his high mark as a coach, a highly respected winning coach.   In 27 seasons 1950 –1976 while at St. John Evangelist, Cathedral and CBA Schools, his basketball teams won 328 of 436 regular season games, a 75.2% winning percentage.  The culmination of those winning seasons as follows:

            Two All- City Championships

Four Central N.Y. Cities League Championships

Three consecutive Section three Class A Championships

His baseball coaching record at Evangelist is also an enviable one, Eight Parochial League Championships and One All-City Championship. Reluctant to take credit for his successes, humbly he would say about his great teams, “ I always had great players”. …….We all know…. they had a great teacher.  He was masterful at developing young, talented youngsters to their potential.

Bob Snyder, Post Standard Sports Writer wrote on two occasions in 1987:     -“Bob Felasco – Best of the modern day scholastic basketball coaches…..prep/ college basketball officials.”    “I would argue, however that over the past quarter century, there has been many fine scholastic basketball coaches….two a cut above the rest, one is Bob Felasco, the other Jerry Wilcox.”

Over his illustrious career, Bob received numerous awards that include:

The Vic Hanson Medal of Excellence, by the Syracuse University Hardwood Club

The Joseph Schwarzer Award in recognition of his outstanding basketball officiating ability

Induction into the Syracuse Hall of Fame.

Although his coaching and officiating days are behind him, his legendary accomplishments serve as an inspiration and worthy goals for those who follow. Bob has inspired and motivated so many of us and we thank him for that.

Bob, your North High family, friends, former teammates and players everywhere, congratulate you and your family.  You Did Good!  We Wish You Well!
